About me
My first introduction to yoga was in an ashram just outside Kathmandu, Nepal. I had been trekking with friends & had the urge to try out yoga. On returning to the city I came across a poster advertising a week long beginner's course in an ashram nearby. Being immersed in ashram life with hatha yoga, meditation, cleansing techniques & a yogic diet was a life-changing event.
After the course I immediately began exploring different classes & styles of yoga as I continued on my travels. Over the years I have been drawn to Satyananda, Iyengar & Ashtanga yoga. My teaching therefore is influenced by these styles although my own practice & joy is Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
Yoga Arts in Byron Bay, Australia, offered a nine month intensive teacher training which I completed in 2001. I hold the Registered Yoga Alliance Teacher 500 hours Certificate. I returned to the UK where I was born & raised, & began teaching.
I later continued my studies with my Ashtanga teacher from the course, Matthew Sweeney, & undertook an apprenticeship assisting him in workshops in Europe, Australia & Singapore.
In more recent years I have been spending more time exploring Matthew's Vinyasa Krama Sequences. I teach/support his Moon Sequence in self-practise classes. I have been teaching the past six years in Dunedin & started up a Mysore programme there. I am very happy to have moved to Nelson where I am enjoying the sunshine & outdoors with my partner & two exuberant young boys.
